Privacy policy

Last updated 28 October 2026. Applies to the Gainsmith app for iPhone and this website.

At a glance

  • No account. You never give Gainsmith your name, email or a password.
  • No tracking, ads or analytics in the app or on this website. Gainsmith has no servers and collects no data about you.
  • Your training is yours. It's kept on your iPhone and, if iCloud is on, in your own private iCloud.
  • Apple Health is optional and write only. Gainsmith saves workouts there if you ask it to and never reads your Health data.
  • Apple handles payments. Gainsmith never sees your card or billing details.

What Gainsmith collects

Nothing. Gainsmith is made by Gradient UX Limited ("we"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 13941886, registered office 20 Northcotts, Hatfield, England, AL9 5ES), which is the data controller under UK and EU data protection law. The app has no servers, no user accounts, no analytics or crash reporting, no advertising and no third-party SDKs that collect data. We can't see who uses Gainsmith or anything you enter into it. The App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected.

This website is the same: no cookies, no analytics, no fonts or scripts loaded from anyone else. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, keeps standard technical logs (such as IP addresses) for a short time to run and protect the service, under Cloudflare's privacy policy.

What stays on your iPhone

Workouts, sets, pauses, routines and your own exercisesOn your iPhone, and in your private iCloud if iCloud is onYour training log, progress and coaching
Settings: a name for the greeting, goals, equipment, units, rest times, appearanceOn your iPhone onlySo the app works the way you set it up
Soreness check-ins and your learnt recovery speedOn your iPhone onlyTo estimate muscle readiness
Form videos and photos you add to an exerciseOn the iPhone you added them onSo you can review your technique

Importing history

If you import workouts from another app (Profile, Import history), Gainsmith reads the CSV file you pick on your iPhone and adds its workouts to your log. The file is never uploaded, and Gainsmith only opens the file you choose.

Notifications and Live Activities

If you allow notifications, Gainsmith schedules a local alert on your iPhone when a rest timer ends. The workout Live Activity on your Lock Screen is drawn on your iPhone. Neither sends anything off the device.

Camera and photo library

Gainsmith only opens the camera or your photos when you choose to add a form video or photo, and only uses the items you pick. They stay on your iPhone.

iCloud backup and sync

If you're signed in to iCloud, Gainsmith stores your workouts, routines and own exercises in the private database of your iCloud account, using Apple's CloudKit. Apple runs iCloud under Apple's privacy policy. We have no access to your private iCloud data. To stop syncing, turn off iCloud for Gainsmith in the Settings app under your name, then iCloud.

Apple Health

Saving to Apple Health is off until you turn it on in Gainsmith (Profile, Apple Health) and allow it in the Health permission screen. When it's on, Gainsmith writes each finished workout as Traditional Strength Training, with its start and end time, any pauses, and a few details: the workout's name, the number of working sets, the total volume and an identifier. Gainsmith doesn't read any data from Health. Information written to Health is never used for advertising, never sold and never shared. You can turn access off at any time in the Health app, under your profile, Apps, Gainsmith.

Purchases

Gainsmith Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and manages subscriptions under Apple's privacy policy. On your iPhone, Gainsmith asks Apple which plan your Apple ID owns so it can unlock Pro. It never receives your name, email or payment details.

Your choices and rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there's nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side. You control your information directly:

  • Export your history as a spreadsheet: Profile, Export history.
  • Delete your workout history: Profile, Delete workout history.
  • Delete Gainsmith's iCloud data: the Settings app, your name, iCloud, Manage Account Storage, Gainsmith.
  • Remove Gainsmith's workouts from Health: the Health app, your profile, Apps, Gainsmith.
  • Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your iPhone.

If you email us, we use your message only to reply, and delete it once your question is sorted unless you ask us to keep it. In the UK you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Health and fitness

Gainsmith's readiness, workout suggestions and targets are estimates to guide your training, not medical advice. See the terms.

Children

Gainsmith isn't aimed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.

Changes

If Gainsmith ever handles information differently, this page will be updated before the change ships, with a new date at the top. Big changes will also be in the app's release notes.
